My client is one of the Chicago area’s premier pediatric practices and one of the Chicago Tribune’s 100 Top Workplaces, is seeking a Director of Human Resources. This newly created, senior management level position will provide overall strategic Human Resources leadership to this fast growing medical practice. This position will manage and administer the development, implementation and operation of all of my clients' Human Resource programs. The successful candidate will have a strong background in training and development, employee recruitment and retention, and compensation and benefits. Qualified candidates will have a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in human resources management, a SPHR or equivalent certification, and a minimum of ten years Human Resources management experience, preferably in a healthcare environment.
SUMMARY
This position provides the full range of human resource management services to my client in order to support and advance the mission and goals of the organization. This position manages and administers the development, implementation and operation of all of my clients' human resource programs, including recruitment, staff and management development and training, provider credentialing, compensation, payroll, benefits, employee relations, EEO compliance, organizational development, safety and health, records and retention and employee communications. This position is a senior management level position.
JOB FUNCTIONS
I. Human Resource Management XX% of Time
A. Coaches and advises all levels of management relative to employee development and job design.
B. Provides executive management with effective human resource programs.
C. Assists managers in identifying and addressing human resource issues to optimize organizational performance.
D. Develops and implements human resource policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state and federal laws.
II. Training and Employee Development XX% of Time
A. Supports management in identifying and implementing team building activities for employees.
B. Assesses and addresses issues with employee morale and recommends appropriate actions to executive management to improve morale.
C. Develops, implements and manages training plans to meet the Practice’s employee training needs, including identifying qualified trainers from both internal and external sources.
D. Directs and administers the performance review process.
E. Assists managers in creating development plans for high-potential and other identified employees.
III. Recruitment and Staffing XX% of Time
A. Directs employee recruitment and hiring programs for all staff and management positions.
B. Develops and maintains appropriate on-boarding and termination policies and procedures that are in full compliance with all local, state and federal laws.
IV. Compensation and Benefits XX% of Time
A. Manages all employee compensation and benefits programs to ensure that they are aligned with the structure, strategy and operating style of the organization. Periodically assesses the alignment and effectiveness of the programs and makes recommendations to executive management when modifications are needed.
B. Maintains and updates, as needed, position descriptions for all positions.
C. Oversees the Practice’s payroll system and ensures that payroll is processed in a timely manner, and that all applicable payroll-related laws, rules and regulations are followed.
D. Works with executive management to negotiate benefits-related contracts and the provision of benefits services.
V. Employee Relations and Related Activities 15% of Time
A. Provides and administers an employee relations program.
B. Counsels supervisors and employees regarding job-related issues and concerns as well as the Practice’s policies and practices, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations and good practices.
C. Directs the maintenance of all required employee records, in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
D. Oversees and manages all employee communications programs.
VII. Supervisory Responsibilities 5% of Time
A. Supervises, directs and accepts responsibility for work performed by the Payroll and Benefits Assistant.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS Bachelor’s degree in business management, human resources, or related field; Masters degree preferred. PHR/SPHR certification preferred. Minimum of ten years human resources management experience, preferably in a healthcare environment. Must have excellent coaching, leadership and employee development skills. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to work collaboratively and have a strong team orientation. Must have strong customer service orientation. Must be computer literate and be skilled in using the Microsoft Office suite of products including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Must be comfortable with using web-based portals and online systems. Must have good time management and organizational skills. Must have significant experience managing employee compensation/benefit programs. Must have demonstrated experience implementing and managing employee development and training programs.
